About The Event
Join the author and the family in historic Mound Bayou for a celebration of Catfish Dream and the legacy of Ed Scott, Jr., who was a member of and deacon at First Baptist Church. Mound Bayou is integral to the personal experiences of Ed Scott and his family, as well as the story's larger historical resonance. The town, founded by freedmen in the aftermath of the Civil War, was an idyll of black self-determination. During the civil rights movement, it provided safe haven for activists and citizens who resisted white supremacy. It was also the location of a large portion of the Scotts' farmland; land once belonging to Edna Ruth Scott's father, farmer and community organizer Isaac Daniel.
